I am a writer, editor, teacher, and journalist who has written for The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Believer, Longreads, and Literary Hub, among others. My essays, features, and creative nonfiction cover the subjects of arts & culture, history, travel, food, and family, and I’ve also written about sports, health, and politics. In 2018, I was one of the winners of the Poets & Writers Amy Award for poetry. I also write a newsletter about history and the ways the past echoes in the present called Looking Backward.
I am currently a teaching fellow at Columbia University as part of the M.F.A. program in nonfiction there. At Columbia, I previously worked as the online managing editor for the literary magazine Columbia Journal and taught an on-campus creative writing workshop for military veterans. Before beginning the M.F.A. program, I worked as a magazine and digital editor at Time Inc.
